World's largest clean energy corridor powers through cold wave with weekly output of over 4.7 bln kWh
Date: 2025-01-02
The world’s largest clean energy corridor generated over 4.7 billion kWh of electricity from December 17 to 23, 2024, as power demand surged due to a cold wave. The average daily output reached 680 million kWh - enough to meet the electricity needs of 260 million people for an entire day.
Comprising the Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba hydropower stations, the corridor boasts 99 operational units and a peak available capacity exceeding 56 million kW.
Currently, the cascade reservoirs hold approximately 33.6 billion cubic meters of water and store 30.8 billion kWh of energy. These substantial reserves ensure a stable and secure power supply during the cold spell.
