Cargo throughput of Three Gorges project surpasses 150 mln tonnes for third consecutive year

In 2024, the Three Gorges project achieved a cargo throughput of 159 million tonnes, marking the third time since 2022 that it has surpassed 150 million tonnes.

The ship locks at the Three Gorges Dam alone saw over 10,000 operations, with a throughput of 154 million tonnes, maintaining a steady freight volume of over 100 million tonnes for 11 consecutive years.

Meanwhile, the ship lift at the Three Gorges Dam completed over 4,700 operations, handling 5.03 million tonnes of cargo, marking a 5.1-percent increase from the previous year.

Additionally, the project facilitated the passage of over 26 million tonnes of essential goods, while passenger traffic through the ship lift surpassed 500,000 for the first time.
