Construction of world’s largest 10,000-tonne-class electric cargo ship begins
Date: 2025-01-14
Recently, the construction of a 10,000-tonne-class pure electric cargo ship, a key project led by CTG, in collaboration with multiple Chinese research institutions, has officially begun.
With a length of 129.98 meters, the ship will have a capacity of up to 13,740 tonnes and be powered by 12 lithium battery packs.
The battery packs are expected to provide approximately 24,000 kWh of energy for a range of up to 500 kilometers, guaranteeing stable and reliable power for long-distance cargo transportation.
Once completed, the vessel is expected to save about 617.5 tonnes of fuel and cut carbon emissions by approximately 2,052 tonnes annually.
The project will also include supporting charging and battery swap stations, laying the groundwork for the widespread adoption of large electric transport vessels for long-distance operations.
