Chinese sturgeon released by CTG nine months ago found in coastal waters of E China's Jiangsu
Date: 2025-01-15
Recently, a Chinese sturgeon was accidentally caught by a fishing boat in the waters of Haimen district, Nantong city, east China's Jiangsu Province. It was identified as a second-generation offspring released by CTG in March 2024 in the Yichang section of the Yangtze River, Hubei Province.
After a health assessment confirmed its well-being, the sturgeon was safely returned to the sea.
As a species under first-class national protection in China, the Chinese sturgeon has been a focal point of CTG’s conservation and population restoration efforts for over 40 years.
To date, more than 6.5 million Chinese sturgeons have been released into the wild.
In April 2023, another Chinese sturgeon released in 2022 was found in the same area, providing valuable insights into the success of the release program and demonstrating the species' adaptability to marine environments.
