China's first large inland clean energy ro-ro ship officially launched in Hubei Province

Date: 2025-01-23

On January 20, China’s first large inland clean energy ro-on/ro-off (ro-ro) ship was officially launched in Zigui county, central China's Hubei Province.

The ship was jointly developed by CTG and the Changjiang River Administration of Navigational Affairs under China's Ministry of Transport (MOT).

The project's first batch of production includes three ships, primarily designed for transporting heavy-duty vehicles. Each vessel measures 129.8 meters in length and has a designed carrying capacity of 8,000 to 9,000 tonnes.

Powered by a green energy system, the ship uses electricity generated by a methanol-fueled power generation system.

With a designed cruising speed of 20 kilometers per hour, each vessel is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 157.5 tonnes compared to conventional fuel-powered ships of the same type.
