Date: 2025-02-19
Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan's ambassador to China, recently led a delegation, including senior officials from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to visit the Karot Hydropower Plant in Pakistan.
During the visit, they engaged in discussions with CTG Asia-Africa, which provided an overview of its operations in Pakistan, the progress of the Karot project, and its contributions to Pakistan's development.
The delegation toured key facilities, including the spillway, central control room, and generator units.
Ambassador Hashmi noted that the visit deepened his understanding of the Karot Hydropower Plant and reinforced his confidence in the development of renewable energy within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He expressed hope for continued collaboration to further boost local economic and social development.
The Karot Hydropower Project, the first hydropower facility developed by CTG under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, has been in operation since June 2022.
With four generating units and a total installed capacity of 720 megawatts (MW), the project is expected to produce approximately 3.2 billion kWh of electricity annually, providing reliable energy for 5 million local residents.
