Three Gorges ship lift and five-tier ship locks see an increase in freight and passenger traffic during the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush

During this year's Spring Festival travel rush, which ran from January 14 to February 22, the ship lift and five-tier ship locks at the Three Gorges Dam in Yichang, central China's Hubei Province, handled a total of 15.51 million tonnes of freight and saw year-on-year growth in both freight and passenger traffic.
Over the holiday period, the Three Gorges ship lift transported over 33,500 passengers, a 93.94-percent increase compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the Three Gorges ship locks facilitated the passage of 3,642 vessels in 1,024 operations, handling over 15.38 million tonnes of cargo, up 12.76 percent from a year ago.
More than 4 million tonnes of essential supplies were transported via the Three Gorges ship locks. The Three Gorges ship lift completed 289 loaded chamber cycles, enabling the passage of 289 vessels.
