CTG's six cascade reservoirs release 10 bln m³ of water to replenish the Yangtze River
Date: 2025-02-26
As of February 17, 2025, the six cascade reservoirs operated by CTG along the Yangtze River's mainstream—Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, the Three Gorges, and Gezhouba—have collectively released 10 billion cubic meters of water to replenish the Yangtze River during this dry season.
The reservoirs have ensured a stable water supply for domestic and industrial use in communities along the Yangtze River while maintaining smooth navigation along the crucial golden waterway.
From November to April every year, inflows from the upper reaches and tributaries of the Yangtze River decrease significantly. As a vital freshwater reservoir system in China, the cascade reservoirs, led by the Three Gorges, utilize previously stored water to replenish the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
