Three Gorges project sees sound operation in Q1
Date: 2025-04-11
In the first quarter of 2025, the Three Gorges project maintained stable and efficient operations.
Key highlights include:
Water Supplementation:
• The minimum average daily outflow from the Three Gorges Reservoir reached 7,120 cubic meters per second.
• By the end of March, the reservoir had released a cumulative total of approximately 4.6 billion cubic meters of water downstream, helping to secure water supply for the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
Navigation:
• The Three Gorges ship locks completed 2,406 lock cycles safely, enabling the passage of 8,737 vessels and 2,336 passengers. Freight throughput via the ship locks reached 36.36 million tonnes. Cumulative freight throughput through the ship locks has now exceeded 2.2 billion tonnes.
• The ship lift safely completed 728 chamber cycles, transporting over 70,000 passengers and 729 vessels, with freight throughput totaling 290,000 tonnes.
Power Generation:
• The Three Gorges power plant generated approximately 14.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, ensuring a stable supply of clean energy.
