Over 220,000 second-generation captive-bred Chinese sturgeons released into the Yangtze River
Date: 2025-04-15
Recently, more than 220,000 second-generation captive-bred Chinese sturgeons were released into the Yangtze River.
The release followed a multi-tiered strategy combining juvenile, sub-adult and adult fish, involving individuals from seven distinct age groups—the most comprehensive age structure in the program's history. The majority were juveniles born in 2024, supplemented by 230 sub-adults from previous years.
Over the years, CTG has remained dedicated to the conservation and research of Chinese sturgeon. In 2009, CTG achieved a breakthrough in the full-cycle artificial breeding of second-generation sturgeons, and in 2022, scaled up to mass production.
In 2024, CTG and its partners released over one million Chinese sturgeons in a single year, setting a new record.
