Three Gorges reservoir ramps up its average daily outflow to 10,000 m³/s

To meet peak spring irrigation needs, the Three Gorges reservoir has recently ramped up its average daily outflow to 10,000 m³/s, enhancing water supply to the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the Four Outlets of Dongting Lake (Songzi, Hudu, Ouchi, Tiaoxian), and the Jianghan Plain.

Since the launch of the dry-season water replenishment operation on December 1, 2024, the reservoir has released over 6.4 billion m³of water downstream as of April 9, 2025—enough for the annual use of 15.2 million people—supporting agricultural irrigation along the river.
