Three Gorges Reservoir launches its first ecological regulation trial in 2025
Date: 2025-04-25
The Three Gorges reservoir launched its first ecological regulation trial in 2025, aimed at supporting the reproduction of demersal sticky egg-spawning fish species, including carp, crucian carp, and other demersal sticky egg-spawning fish.
This trial aims to create a better environment for fish reproduction. Once the water warms up, water levels are carefully regulated to match spawning needs—giving fish eggs a better chance to survive and hatch.
Since 2020, the Three Gorges reservoir has conducted 10 similar operations with promising outcomes. Upcoming efforts, including “artificial flood peaks” and tributary algae control, will further advance ecological restoration in the Yangtze River basin.
