Three Gorges ship locks handle over 2.24 bln tonnes of cargo in 22 years

The Three Gorges ship locks have marked 22 years of continuous operation.

Since its opening in June 2003, it has completed over 215,000 lockage operations, facilitating the passage of about 1.07 million vessels and more than 12.29 million passengers, and handled over 2.24 billion tonnes of cargo.

Operating around the clock through scorching summers and freezing winters, the ship locks have maintained smooth, efficient traffic year after year, playing a key role in supporting waterway transport along the Yangtze River.
