CTG's innovative blade icing detection sensors enhance wind farm efficiency in central China's Hubei Province
Date: 2025-07-18
At the height of summer at the Huanglongshan Wind Farm in central China's Hubei Province, a new kind of “electronic skin” has been quietly applied to turbine blades.
Developed by CTG, these blade icing detection sensors monitor changes in ice thickness in real time, providing accurate data on blade icing conditions.
Last winter, during four icing events, the technology helped reduce downtime by 61 hours and boosted power generation by over 13,000 kWh. Now moving beyond the lab, it’s being rolled out to more high-altitude wind farms, offering smart protection for efficient winter operations.
