Successful ecological regulation experiments boost drifting fish egg spawning in Three Gorges Reservoir
Date: 2025-08-06
The Three Gorges Reservoir recently completed its 2025 ecological regulation experiments to support the natural spawning of drifting fish eggs.
Monitoring in the Yidu and Shashi sections of central China's Hubei Province recorded estimated totals of 66.4 billion and 69.6 billion eggs respectively, with Shashi hitting a historic high.
By simulating man-made flood peaks and refining water flow patterns, the trial created favorable conditions for fish reproduction.
Since 2011, CTG has conducted 24 such ecological flow operations, injecting steady momentum into the protection of biodiversity in the Yangtze River.
