Chaglla Hydropower: powering Peru sustainably while supporting local communities
Date: 2025-10-29
Nestled on the lush eastern slopes of Peru's Andes, the Chaglla Hydroelectric Plant is the country's third-largest hydro plant, generating over 2 billion kWh annually — 5.31% of Peru's electricity. Operated by CTG since 2019, the plant delivers reliable, clean energy while fostering ecological protection and community development.
Chaglla's teams actively preserve biodiversity, including nearly 9,600 rescued orchids, and maintain the Huallaga River by removing debris to ensure safe, uninterrupted power generation. The project also invests in local infrastructure, building and repairingroads, providing free shuttle and ferry services, and supporting aquaculture initiatives that offer stable income for villagers.

Through localized employment and skill training, Chaglla creates over 500 jobs, empowering the community with long-term opportunities. By combining green energy with social responsibility, Chaglla stands as a shining example of sustainable development and Sino-Peruvian friendship in the heart of the Andes.
