The Three Gorges Reservoir releases over 10 billion cubic meters during dry season replenishment

How much water is 10 billion cubic meters? It is equivalent to the annual water usage of more than 23.75 million people in China. Since late 2025, the Three Gorges Reservoir has released this volume of water to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the dry season.

Winter and spring are typically periods of low rainfall for the Yangtze River basin. By maintaining average daily outflows exceeding 7,000 cubic meters per second, nearly 60 percent higher than natural levels, the reservoir has helped support water supply, agriculture, shipping and ecosystems along the Yangtze River.
