CTG completes 2026 Yangtze sturgeon breeding program
Date: 2026-05-20
CTG has completed its 2026 breeding work for the Yangtze sturgeon, with more than 730,000 fry produced in Yibin, Sichuan province and Yichang, Hubei province.
These high-quality fry will support this year's stock enhancement efforts for the Yangtze River.
The Yangtze sturgeon is a rare species endemic to the Yangtze River and an important indicator of the river's aquatic ecosystem health. Since China launched the 10-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River in 2021, monitoring data show that recorded numbers of Yangtze sturgeon have risen sixfold compared with the pre-ban period.
Since 2011, CTG has continued research and conservation work for the species, supporting efforts to bring this rare fish closer to recovery in the wild.
