World's largest offshore converter station sets sail from Nantong
Date: 2026-05-28
How does wind far out at sea become the electricity we use every day? More than 70 km off Yangjiang, Guangdong province, CTG's Yangjiang Qingzhou V and VII offshore converter station will serve as the "heart" of the wind farm.
On May 27, the station officially set sail from Nantong, Jiangsu province. It is the world's largest offshore converter station by transmission capacity and the world's first ±500 kV, 2,000 MW offshore flexible DC converter station. Once installed, it will collect electricity from 163 offshore wind turbines, convert 66 kV AC power into ±500 kV DC power, and send clean offshore wind power to onshore grids with greater efficiency and lower losses, ultimately bringing electricity to homes and communities.
