"The Heart of the SeaWind" installation completed
Date: 2026-06-05
On June 4, "the Heart of the SeaWind" — the world's largest offshore converter station — was successfully installed more than 70 km off the coast of Yangjiang, Guangdong province, marking a key step for CTG's Yangjiang Qingzhou V and VII offshore wind project.
Weighing about 25,000 tonnes, the station's upper module was not lifted by cranes. Instead, the project team used a float-over installation method, relying on tides, dynamic positioning and precise ballast control to slowly guide the massive steel structure into place. At the narrowest point, the clearance on each side was only 150 mm.
Once fully operational, the project will transmit about 6 billion kWh of clean electricity annually to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, reducing CO₂ emissions by nearly five million tonnes annually.
