"Firefighters in the sky" for a PV station
Date: 2026-06-25
Across the mountain slopes of Binchuan, Yunnan province, rows of solar panels have their own "firefighters in the sky".
At the 100-MW Yanpeng PV station, a smart fire-control system combining automatic detection and drone-based firefighting has been put into use to protect the site from fire risks.
With 50 dual-light cameras, 40 fixed cameras and three intelligent firefighting drone systems, the station is monitored in real time. When a camera detects a possible fire spot, the system processes the data, identifies the location and dispatches the nearest drone automatically. The drone then flies to the site, hovers above the target and drops dry-powder fire-extinguishing bombs.
So far, the system has completed more than 300 fire-spot tests and dropped 827 fire-extinguishing bombs, showing strong performance in detection accuracy, positioning and firefighting.
