A little "dog" at the Three Gorges Dam? Not quite — this four-legged "new employee" is here for a serious job.

Meet Three Gorges Landun 1. It is now carrying out autonomous patrols inside the dam's foundation drainage gallery, a key structure that helps support the dam's safe and stable operation.

With its bionic four-legged design, Landun 1 can walk steadily on stairs, slopes and other complex terrain where wheeled or tracked equipment may struggle. Working alongside fixed monitoring points across the Three Gorges Dam, it acts like a moving sensor inside the structure. Equipped with sharp "eyes" and a sensitive "nose", it provides 360-degree observation, identifies surface anomalies such as seepage points, and monitors temperature, humidity and gas conditions in real time, helping engineers better understand the dam's condition and spot potential risks earlier on.
