Three Gorges Dam tourist area reports strong performance in first half of 2026

In the first half of 2026, the Three Gorges Dam tourist area welcomed more than 1.61 million visitors, up 9.6 percent year on year, as this engineering marvel continues to shine as a premier global tourism landmark.

The site saw strong holiday crowds, with more than 190,000 visits during the Spring Festival holiday and over 150,000 during the May Day holiday. International interest is growing too: In the first half of the year, the tourist area received more than 41,200 foreign visitors, up 25.42 percent year on year.

Beyond the views of the dam itself, visitors can also experience intangible cultural heritage activities such as shadow puppetry, traditional rubbing and Xiling paper-cutting.
