Hami 1-million-kilowatt solar-thermal and PV project enters commercial trial operation

Recently, the Hami 1-million-kilowatt integrated concentrated solar-thermal power and photovoltaic (PV) energy demonstration project in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region entered commercial trial operation. It is China's largest linear-Fresnel solar-thermal integrated energy demonstration project.

Linear-Fresnel solar-thermal technology enables the efficient conversion and stable use of solar energy through four key steps: concentrating sunlight, collecting heat, storing heat and generating electricity. During the day, the PV station generates power while the solar-thermal system concentrates sunlight and stores heat. At night or on cloudy days, when PV output declines, molten salt releases the stored heat to support stable power generation.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate about 2.067 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to reducing CO₂ emissions by about 1.63 million tonnes each year.
